The highest paid 10 percent in 2014 had an average monthly wage of NOK 82,900, in 2015 it was NOK 85,800.

The lowest paid 10 percent in 2014 had an average monthly wage of NOK 22,900, in 2015 it was NOK 22,500.

Wages will vary by location, industry and company.

Estimated annual earnings for all employees, which is a compilation of annual salary for each business area, in 2015 was, NOK 518,100. This equals to NOK 13,900 kroner, or 2.8 percent more than in 2014. The increase from 2013 to 2014 was 3.2 percent.

All these figures from the Norwegian Statistics Office only reflect the agreed monthly wages and do not take into account overtime pay, bonuses, or statutory holiday pay.

Also, these figures do not reflect the salaries paid in certain regions and industries, such as the oil and gas sector in Stavanger, where a specialist engineer with 5- 10 years of work experience in 2014 often could demand a monthly salary of Kr 65,000 (EUR 7,100) or more.

Minimum Wage

Norway does not have a legal minimum wage, however there are negotiated scales within the different sectors that regulate the minimum hourly rate that can be paid to a worker, and which no employer can ignore. For the building and construction industry the rates from May 8, 2015 are as follows (figures are from the Norwegian Labor Inspection Authority):

Workers with a trade certificate: NOK 187.80 per hour (EUR 20.60)

Workers without a trade certificate: Kr 168.80 per hour (EUR 18.50)

Workers without a trade certificate, but with 1 year of work experience: Kr 176.00 (EUR 19.30)

Workers under the age of 18: Kr 113.20 (EUR 12.40)

During 2015 the NOK weakened against the EUR and even the Norwegian salary in NOK increased the previous year, while the EUR figures have been somewhat reduced.

Salaries in Norway are among the highest in the world.
